Term 1 Week 3

Welcome to Week 3 everyone.
It is wonderful to report that both Year 4 Cook and Flinders classes have settled into the new year very quickly. The children are working hard to establish good routines and work habits.
This is the first week for homework. The following are examples of what the children can do each week for homework.

The children are encouraged to......
  •  Practise their spelling list words and dictation passage and complete various activities using them.
  • Words can be written out or typed using computer programs, sentences written with correct grammar, punctuation and descriptive language.
  • Children might learn more about their spelling list words by using a dictionary. Practise this using a program or computer search engine.
  • Think of words which are synonyms (similar words meanings) or antonyms (opposite word meanings) to those in the lists.
  • Read for 10 to 15 minutes each night. Read for enjoyment and interest!!
  • Prepare talking and listening task for the next week. Topics went home in a note for the children and are also posted on the blog.
  • Practise cursive writing (linked letters) the handwriting passage below.
As explained in the homework note sent out earlier, children and families choose what and how they complete suggested tasks for homework. Work can be done using paper and pencil, on the computer or simply by talking. Each family is different and will choose the most suitable thing. Parents are encouraged as the homework note said, to work with their child, monitoring the quality of what is being done and offering correction and praise.

Check into www.studyladder.com.au to see if your class teacher has set any tasks for the week. If so, complete them. If not, have a go at something you choose yourself. Think about the topics being studied at school.

Children, post a comment on the blog to let your teacher know what you have done for the week. Remember, we will be checking for your use of correct language, spelling and punctuation when you post.

Have a wonderful week!
Mr Dilley and Miss Archer

Handwriting Passage for Week 3:

When the dog got a whiff of the food, it began to whimper and whine.  You cannot whistle if your whiskers are in the whisky.  On a whim we were whisked off to the wharf.  She began to wheeze when she breathed the pollen from the wheat in the fields.

Dictation Passage for Week 3:

  1. Tell me where and when the whale with the white tip was last seen while you are at the wheel of the boat.
  2. Why does the whip make that cracking sound?
  3. Which whistle is the best to use in the show?
